Get to Know Idaho Dietetic Student: Patrick Anderson

This year the Idaho Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics is celebrating 70 years of our Idaho affiliate! As part of our celebration, we would like to recognize what Idaho Dietetic Interns and Students are doing and where they would like to go after the completion of their dietetic program.

Today, we are recognizing:

Patrick Anderson

Senior Student in the Coordinated Program in Dietetics at the University of Idaho

How did you become interested in nutrition?

I became interested in nutrition through exercise. I became passionate about working out, and found that I had a lot of questions about food and nutrition.

What has been your favorite experience from your dietetic program and/or internship so far?

I really enjoyed the IAND Annual Meeting. I loved listening to what the most current topics are in dietetics, and thinking of how that will affect the ways I practice in the future.

Once you become a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist, what kind of work would you like to do?

I am still very open to most types of work, but as of now, I feel most drawn to clinical dietetics. I really enjoy the trouble-shooting aspect of reading through charts and identifying pieces of the puzzle.

What words of wisdom would you share with students who are interested in pursuing Dietetics?

Keep an open mind, and never overlook an opportunity. You never know where you’ll find passion.
